I am often inspired by Art of Apex High Schools blog. This time it had lead me to doing a mini golf lesson for our sculpture unit. Ian's class is a high school level so I brought it down to the middle schoolers and I'm really happy with what they came up with.
First I asked the kids to make a mini golf sculpture using art history as their inspiration. I asked each student to share about their work before we went out to play. They were instructed to share 5 facts about the artist. For a Art History lesson in 8th grade, this was perfect!
The kids set the artwork up using stools from class. It was nice and easy, they didn't have to worry about making theirs balance and we could get to the game faster!
This is how we entered summer break... We played all the sculptures and what a blast it was. Some were really hard! The clubs and balls were curtsy of the PE department. I did have bank on a nice day outside, but with those couple of variables, we had a successful mini golf game! Thanks Ian for the inspiration. Check out more images from our games at our Flickr site.
How absolutely fabulous!! Can you show us more of the individual holes? Did the kids work individually or in groups? Love, love, love it. I'll have to check it out on your source blog post.
ReplyDeleteOh. I just realized the pics were in a Flickr stream - they are all fabulous. I especially am loving the Leonardo da Vinci man - hahaha so cute! Wouldn't it be fun to do this earlier in the year and set up a whole mini golf course? I see such potential...
