Zentangle Tessellation

I was inspired by a tessellation I saw on pinterest of a profile.  I wanted to give it a shot.  I asked my students to create the profile of anything.  Some really got the idea of a tessellation but my instruction didn't reach everyone.  Here are a couple of really successful projects, but click here to see what an average looks like.  I don't think I would do the zentangles again with this project.  It made it a little too busy.

  2. I think these look pretty cool. It's a great idea. My only concern with younger kids is how long it must have taken to do. The learning takes place and then the tedium sets in with some kids, while other kids (and adults like me) could just doodle like this forever.

I did a doodle project (I refuse to call then zentangles) with my 5th graders last year - we just divided up the paper with loosely curled or wavy lines crisscrossing the paper and then filled all the little spaces with patterns. We put them away and any time a student finished early or had some extra time they worked on adding the patterns. They worked on them all year, I swear, and they turned out great!

  3. I think these are really visually interesting, although the tessellation isn't as apparent with all the decoration. I think they look like little patchwork quilts. Very cool!
