2nd grade, Bird Sculptures Sculptures


As many of you know, I'm allergic to clay.  So this year for my second grade I tried to use Model Magic.  We made birds.  These birds took two weeks.  The first week we made the bird, and used marker to color a coffee filter.  The filters were sprayed with water and left to dry over the week.

As you can see from the pictures above.  We created a flat back to the so the feathers can be glued on later.

Day two the kids colored the Model Magic with their markers.  We hot glued the 'feathers' and eyes onto the bird.  When they were done they create a story about their bird (shown below).

  1. I love these!!! I am so inspired. I had students use coffee filters for dot projects back in September but haven't handed them back because I felt they had more to offer and might integrate them into a another project later in the year. I think you've shown me the way to do that! Thanks so much for sharing, these are beautiful and I know you will see me duplicate your project.
