Puppets- Made in Art Class, Singing in Music Class

These puppets were a total blast for many of my classes.  I tried this with 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade students and ALL of them loved it.  The hard part was hard to get them to clean up, they were so into it. I found a lot of inspiration on my hunt for the perfect puppet (see pinterest board), but ended up following the directions on from Seven Thirty Three.

I made these puppets because I had my students working very hard on their self portraits for the past couple of weeks so I wanted to give them more of a creative opportunity.  In addition, my Music teachers came to me with an assessment problem.  They found that when they have kids sing for pitch, they are often off.  If they ask their puppet to 'sing'... the puppet can match pitch well.  CRAZY.  Hence, the kids are making great, creative puppets in Art Class and singing with them in Mrs. Flanders and Mr. Eckbergs music class.

This is how I know puppets were a success!  I have parent sending me picture of their kid's making them at home.  When kids apply what they learned in your class to their lives, you know you are doing something right!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing! I learned to make these puppets when I was a child, so I love that your students had the opportunity to learn and I know that some of them will grow up and pass the craft on to others!
