Jasper John's Numbers

Can you tell I'm counting down the day to the end of the school year a bit.  When I was looking for a couple of projects that use mediums that my K's have not had a chance to explore with, Jasper John's Numbers stood out to me the most!

I had the kids divide the sheet of paper into fourths, free hand, not folding.  They then picked 4 numbers to write in pencil.  I demonstrated using oil pastels and showed them how to create 2 or 3 layers on each number.

Then, these little buggers were asked to create layers of watercolor around each of their numbers.  This really turned out cute! I love how Kindergartenized each of these artworks are complete with backwards numbers and uneven spaces. I just love the innocents of K's art.
