Expanding the Classroom Walls, Midtown Global Market

Midtown Global Market is in Minneapolis Minnesota.  This is a great site that allows you to learn about different cultures through their food.  It is a hub for the area.  We saw many business and locals eating lunch at this site.  What was really fun at the Global Market was we were given a scavenger hunt and asked to travel from shop to shop asking about what they are known for, or what a certain kind of food is, and so on...

One of the foods I discovered with a couple of peers of mine was a Elotes.  This was described as an authentic Mexican treat.  It's an ear of corn covered with mayo and sprinkled with parmesan cheese and chile.  We were not sure at all about this food, but gave it a shot and loved it! So glad to have tried.

Overall this market was stunning and fun and urban... I think this would be most fun for my staff to do together rather than bringing my students.  This would be a good jumping off point for cultural conversation and team building and bonding.
