So excited for today!  The Art of Educations, Online summer conference is TODAY!  I always come away from this information/inspiration packed day feeling refreshed, reenergized, and excited to start the new school year.

Today I present on Artist Trading Cards! There is/was a lot of information at the conference about the 'how to' implement ATC in your classroom, but I would like to invite all to participate in our worldwide, 1st annual, MiniMatisse Artist Trading Card swap. Here is what you do...

First Fill out the form below...

Next make quality ATC's with your class or program.

Then, mail the cards and the mailing form (click here) to Hassan Elementary. All information is on the form, but feel free to email me with any questions nicholechahn@yahoo.com

Finally!!  We send back the same size trade that you sent us.  This will have cards from many other schools that participated in this Mass Swap.  The goal is that you will get back your cards by Jan. 1st, 2016 (but most likely before).

All are invited to participate, all ages, all schools, all classes (you don't have to be an art class), home-schools, community programs... I have been working HARD at trying to set up for my 4th grade to participate.  They will be making ATC's this whole year.  I have created some examples of ATC's and some flipped lessons, and I'm sharing them all with you.  Please feel free to take a look and use all the ATC information on this blog (click here) or on my website (click here).

Come join us!!  We are excited to trade!

Sgraffito Clay Project

I love these sweet pots done by Amanda Loidolt, my student teacher.  She had the kids make coil pots out of white clay and added red clay slip to the outside.  They carved in to create their design.  This is a technique called sgraffito.  Amanda learned that 10 days of clay between the two classes is a lot in a 45 day art quarter.  Good learning lesson:)

Variety- Stain Glass

Another great project from Amanda Loidolt, my student teacher.  Amanda did stained glass projects with my 7th grade.  She was talking about the concept of variety in this project.  She had the kids fold a 12 x 18 sheet of black paper and cut out the negative space.  They then sandwiched the tissue paper in between.  They turned out really nice.  Good work Amanda!

Tell Me a Story

Amanda enriched her narrative lesson with a little theater. After the kids got done working on there narratives, some classes had the opportunity to create narratives as a skit.  This was a lot of fun.  The kids were given some cards from Eeboo.  These are cards with images on them showing narrative.  The students used them for inspiration for a skit to explain what the story was.  They first did the skit with words but the second time performed it without words (charades style).  The kids had a great time!

Narratives

Mrs. Loidolt inspired the 2nd grade to create some GREAT narratives.  This tied in wonderfully with the drawings of people that we just got done working on.  Amanda explained to the kids all about what a narrative is: "A picture telling a story without words."

She gave examples of narratives by Carmon Lomez Garza and Grandma Moses.  They kids were asked to draw a non-fictional narrative of something they had experienced.  These pictures turned out really sweet and Amanda did a great job!

Art Note for the Paint by Number

Here is an example of the Art Note I attached on the back of the Paint by Number Project. You can get a better view of it on my google share site. This Art Note helps young artist fully explain the concept of the project. It shows the new shapes the students learned. Mediums, tools, and process is also addressed on this note. It also gives kids a bit of a challenge at identifying the even and odd numbers. For an art teacher teaching 650 students as I do, you will see the name includes the last (very helpful when grading) and TC or Teacher Code, so I can keep them apart from one another. I also print the worksheets off in different colors for each of my 1st grade sections so I can identify the class by color as well.

Ruler Eye

You know those people you just click with… Well, I have one working in my room right now. My student teacher is funny and creative. I'm having a blast learning from her and getting her great perspective on education!

She has been watching me work on one point perspective with my 5th grade and I was going on and on about how you have to use a ruler to make the lines and how all art teachers have a super power or seeing when student haven't been using the ruler. Well this is a cute gift that she made me over the weekend. (to see it better click here)

This is a 'Ruler Eye' certificate. It that I have had ruler training for approximately 10 hours, it state topics include potential hazardous of ruler use, hands on training… and so on. It is really funny and the kids couldn't tell if I was joking or not because she made it look so professional.

Loving your job make it fun, if you are having fun, the kids are too. I'm glad Ms. N knows how important it is to have a good time and still be professional. She is going to make a great teacher!
