The older I get, the more I'm interested in REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE... Perhaps it's all the 'stuff' one accumulates over time. Or maybe it's the kids around me and wanting to make this place better for them. I don't know what it is, but it has inspired many creating and projects in my recent past. Here's yet another one. We used Alexander Calder for our inspiration for this project. He made sculptures called Stabile (click here to see more)
We gathered plastic from packaging for a couple of weeks. We cut it up and used sharpie markers to color it.
Under close supervision... we placed the plastic in the oven on a low heat. Some of the pastic moved and reshaped on it's own. With others, when it came out of the oven I pulled on it and shaped it... you only have a few seconds to do this but you can really make some fun shape!
We then used a cardboard base, glue dots, and hot glue to put the sculture together. As you can see, these mini's were quite proud of their wonderful work!
Take a listen to their explanation of their sculptures on this youtube clip.
