K Art: Line Variation

District ISD 728 has offered what they call 'All Day, Everyday' kindergarten.  In order to do this they cut specialist for kindergarteners.  This means that the K's get out an hour early instead of going to Art, Music, and PE.  Because of this, we (The Arts Alliance of Elk River)  felt that there was a need for Kindergarten Art curriculum.  Leah Schultz, Art Educator at Twin Lakes, and I are offering what we call, K Art.  The first class was a REAL success!

For the month of November, Kindergarten students worked on Line variation.  What a fun class!  First students created 4 different lines using beads in the gallery area.

Then we moved into the classroom area where students first drew their lines, and painted them with a brush.

Then they started painting grape leaves.  Did you know that if you freeze grape leaves you can use them up to a year later for leaf prints (just found this bit of information out with this lesson).

Finally the kids were asked to use their fingers for printing their grapes on their painting.

We ended the class reviewing lines with our bodies.  What a good fun class!  Click here to see all the pictures of our young artist!

Come join us next class when we are creating self portraits!  Hope to see even more kindergarten students in December.
