Expanding the Classroom Walls, WHCPA Pioneer Museum

If you are a person who has a hard time not touching... This museum is perfect for you.  Touching is encouraged.  Located in Long Lake Minnesota, this old school house was brought to life with the stories from Bob Gasch, Storyteller and Historian. The many artifact peppering the many rooms of this building were all very  interesting and educational.  My daughter Matisse accompanied me on the field trips of the day.

Mr. Gasch gifted us a book with many stories each accompanied with a recipe.  Matisse was very excited to get her book signed by Mr. Gasch.

Bob showed us a Megalethoscope.  This was something I had never seen before, but wow what a cool little treat to see.  Using this machine, black and white pictures turned 3-D and colored.  It was magical to imagine how a person of the 1800's would have reacted to such technology.

Speaking of old technology... I thought it would be cool to get a picture of Matisse using a pay phone.  This might be the only time this child will ever see or sit in a phone booth. Cell phones are taking over the world!

Overall, this was a fun little trip down memory lane filled with an amazing collection of treasures.  Bob Gasch was wonderful and explained that he not only works at the Museum but also presents to classes all over the USA.  He was quite charming and would be a great guest in your classroom, contact him by looking at his website, http://www.gaschstories-puppets.com/
